This is an umbrella term that includes a wide range of effects and disabilities that can occur to an individual whose mother consumed alcohol during pregnancy. An individual with FASD can have cognitive, physical, social, emotional and learning disabilities.

While speech-language pathologists cannot diagnosis FASD, they can support families by creating functional communication goals to meet the needs of individual children.
