Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson’s Disease is a neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system that affects a person’s motor system. Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease experience difficulties with gross motor movements (e.g., walking) as well as fine motor movements (e.g., writing). Parkinson’s Disease may also affect an individual’s speech and/or communication abilities. Frequently reported speech concerns include: quieter voice, fast rate of speech, and difficultly being understood by others.

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment LOUD (LSVT LOUD) is a treatment program for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. Research has demonstrated that following the LSVT LOUD treatment, individuals with Parkinson’s Disease experience improvements in intonation, voice quality, and vocal loudness. Most importantly, it has shown that individuals are better understood by others after completing the LSVT LOUD treatment program.

LSVT LOUD is an intensive treatment plan that is administered four days a week for four weeks (one month plan). The program can be administered to individuals in all stages of Parkinson’s Disease.
