Specializing in Aboriginal Communities

We have extensive experience working with students in Aboriginal and First Nation communities. Our unique service delivery model and appreciation for culture has helped many students reach success in their speech-language-literacy needs and other therapy needs.

Our team includes registered:

  • Speech-Language Pathologists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Instructor Therapists
  • Art Therapists
  • Pediatric Physiotherapists
  • Education Consultants

Our team of speech-language professionals is able to provide therapy for many speech-language-literacy needs, including:

  • Articulation (speech sounds)
  • Receptive Language (understanding language)
  • Expressive Language (producing language)
  • Early Literacy
  • Phonological Awareness
  • Reading and Writing
  • Social Language Needs
  • Fluency (Stuttering)
  • Communication Systems for Non-Verbal Students (Development and Training)
  • Parents, Teacher, Educational Assistant Training

Children who have difficulties with language and phonological development (how sounds are stored in memory and produced) are at higher risk for difficulties with literacy development. Early literacy skills form the basis for later reading and writing skills. At ATS, we advocate for early identification and treatment to lessen the difficulties students experience in later development.

We support a community and client-centered approach involving functional and culturally appropriate goals that build skills in both English and the child’s Native Language.

We work closely with the child’s family, teachers, school personnel and health care providers to deliver the best treatment possible.

A combination of visits to schools and nursing stations, as well as weekly speech-language therapy sessions delivered via our Online/Telepractice, has created an outstanding service delivery model for many communities who may not receive speech-language-literacy services otherwise.
